On behalf of Carol Haviland, the chair of the 2003 IWCA Outstanding Scholarship Award Committee for Best Article who is unable to make this announcement due to traveling constraints, and on behalf of Brad Hughes, Roberta Kjesrud, and Barbara Lutz who served on Carol’s committee, I am pleased announce the recipient of the best article award:

Lerner, Neal. “Writing Center Assessment: Searching for the ‘Proof’ of Our Effectiveness.” _The Center Will Hold_. Ed. Michael A. Pemberton and Joyce Kinkead. Logan: Utah State UP, 2003. 58-73.

Brad Hughes will represent the committee in presenting the award to Neal at the October 7-9 Watson Conference. Congratulations, Neal.

You will all agree that as much as it is an honor to win such an award, it is also an honor to be nominated. Carol wrote to the authors of the eleven other nominated articles to congratulate them on the nomination of their excellent work, and I know she would want you to applaud their achievement as you also applaud Neal’s. An alphabetical listing of those nominated articles follows. Congratulations to all. –Jon Olson, IWCA President
