SWCA CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Nov 8th, 2006 | By IWCA Web Editor | Category: Archives

The SWCA Board is currently accepting nominations for individuals to fill board positions that will become available in February 2007. Elections will be held via mail during January for the positions of treasurer and two at-large members. Each at-large board position has a two-year term. The treasurer’s position has a five-year term. All SWCA board members must have current memberships with the organization; membership information and an application are available on the SWCA website at http://www.swca.us. Detailed descriptions for each open board position are listed below.

Nominations and self-nominations should be sent to Beth Burmester, SWCA Vice-President, at engbtb@langate.gsu.edu by 5:00 p.m. EST on Monday, December 4, 2006. Those who plan to nominate another person should contact that person in advance to be sure that he or she is willing to stand for election and serve, if elected.

Candidates will be asked to submit a 100-word position statement by Wednesday, December 13 to engbtb@langate.gsu.edu, which will be included on the ballots and on the SWCA website (please use the word count function so the description does not exceed 100 words!). The elections will be held by mail. Those elected will assume their positions on February 10, 2007 and will be invited to attend a board meeting following the SWCA Conference in Nashville. Every member of SWCA is enthusiastically encouraged to fill out and return his or her ballot
when it arrives.

TREASURER: The treasurer will be in charge of collecting dues and recording membership and will file reports concerning financial transactions of the SWCA. The reports will be presented to the SWCA Board at its annual meeting and published in annually in our publication, Southern Discourse. The treasurer will work with the Secretary in managing the membership list. Term: Five years (renewable).

AT-LARGE MEMBERS: Board members-at-large attend executive board meetings, participate in discussions on the board listserv, and help to develop and execute short- and long-term goals in the best interests of SWCA. Participation in committees and work groups is also expected. Term: two years.
