Looking Back; Looking Forward: The Next 30 Years of ECWCA

As ECWCA marks its 30th anniversary, this year’s conference will engage histories of writing centers and how they influence the future. We’ll look to the past in order to understand what’s coming, asking questions such as

• What narratives have we created as a field? How have writing centers developed over the past thirty years? How have we defined, measured, and celebrated our achievements?

• How has your individual writing center grown and changed? What initiatives have you implemented and how do these initiatives contribute to future possibilities for your center? What plans do you have for the future?

• For tutors, how do concepts of history and development inform your concept of your role? What have you learned from participating in a writing center over the course of multiple years, semesters, or even multiple tutoring sessions? How has your approach to tutoring changed over time? How have you utilized your past experiences to grow and improve as a tutor?

In this spirit, we invite submissions on any aspect of writing centers. Come and join our conversation! Submissions are due by December 28th at www.ecwca.org.

Session formats:
• Presentations—single or multiple authored talks
• Panels—groups of 3-4 presentations on related topics
• Roundtables—conversations among 5-7 participants
• Posters—multimedia or paper-based works that describe writing centers in the ECWCA area (Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and parts of Kentucky, Illinois, and Pennsylvania), and their histories or plans.

Friday night keynote speaker: Andrea Lunsford

A limited number of scholarships will be available for student tutors.

We will also be holding the ECWCA logo contest. More information is forthcoming.
