CFP: South Central Writing Centers Association 2008 Conference:
Sep 11th, 2007 | By IWCA Web Editor | Category: ArchivesMarch 6-9 2008 – University of Oklahoma – Norman, Oklahoma
When we write, do we write out loud? When we work with student writers, isn’t that a form of writing out loud? So, for writing out loud, join us in March to explore writing out loud! We invite presentations by directors, peer tutors, graduate student, and staff. Presentations can take any form – from sharing your research to performance art. We look forward to a variety of formats that will involve the audience.
* How do our personal writing experiences and strategies influence our work with other writers?
* What about writing centers makes writing out loud easier, harder, better, scary, or rude?
* To what extent do we consider our writing/student writing as public address? As activism?
* How can a writing center work to make itself heard?
* What kinds of practices support the vocal, public writing experience?
* How can writing center directors and tutors theorize and practice the aural aspects of writing by attending to the importance of listening and/or silence?
* How do tutors talk when they talk about writing? What about side talk, back talk, and after session talk?
* What can we learn from rhetorical theory and discourse analysis about writing center practices?
* How does the audio and visual richness of “new media†play out in a writing center?
* How do we “perform†writing in a writing center?
* What is the relationship of writing to music and rhythm?
* Can or should all writing be imagined as something to be read out loud?
* To what degree do writers/tutors/directors need to listen to what’s said/read out loud?
* How can a writing center be a place for texts to be performed/received out loud?
* Does the spoken word shape the written word or does the written word shape the spoken word, or both?
* What do student consultants hear when they listen to their own words in sessions?
