Notice anything different about the International Writing Centers Association website? Members of IWCA’s website subcommittee, executive officers, and the web designers hope you like the site’s new format and features.

Built on a WordPress platform, the site preserves nearly all of the functions of IWCA’s previous homepage but also incorporates such fresh elements as a “Featured Reading” and a photo gallery to which members from around the world can submit images that portray their writers and consultants at work or play in visually captivating settings.

The website subcommittee members—Steve Sherwood (chair), Chris Ervin (web editor), Lauren Fitzgerald, Sue Mendelsohn, Trixie Smith, Valerie Balester, and Phil Block—began in spring 2007 to determine the features and functions the site could and should offer to members. In 2008, after several months of negotiations with commercial web designers, whose bids for the job ranged from $5,000 to $50,000, the subcommittee sought help from members. The Texas A&M University Writing Center volunteered the services of staff web designer Stephanie Leary and a graduate student intern, Ryan Iden. The site, which gives the IWCA an attractive and up-to-date presence on the web, is the product of their ingenuity, hard work, and patience in responding to the subcommittee’s critiques and questions.

Though the site itself is up and running, it remains a work-in-progress. IWCA’s members will continue to write, develop, and update the content. Their suggestions for new features are also welcome.
