POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
Baruch College’s Writing Center provides an innovative and professional environment for undergraduate students to develop and strengthen their writing and English language skills in the context of their assignments and course goals. Closely connected to academic departments and other college academic support units, the Writing Center is a key component in an undergraduate education committed to student writing. Reporting to the Associate Provost, the Director of the Writing Center is responsible for setting the goals and objectives of the Writing Center, advancing the Center’s program and coordinating outcomes assessments. Other responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Overseeing all pedagogical programming and administrative activities of the Center;
• Creating, implementing and delivering workshops and programs to meet the needs of students and faculty;
• Collaborating with academic departments and other support units, such as the Student Academic Consulting Center, to design, implement and improve programs;
• Preparing and implementing assessment efforts to improve the Center’s services and programs;
• Developing, implementing and assessing online support;
• Seeking additional funding through grants and endowments;
• Performing other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) years of relevant experience is required. A Master’s Degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, ESL, Teaching and Learning, or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred. Experience in tutoring and teaching writing to culturally and linguistically diverse populations of college students is also strongly preferred. Experience with writing pedagogy, WAC/WID (Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing In The Disciplines) approaches, instructional technology, curriculum development, and assessments are also preferred. Must have a willingness to engage creatively in administrative and pedagogical efforts. The successful candidate will be familiar with best practices and assessments in the field. Must have strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and projects and meet deadlines. A strong customer service orientation and attention to details are essential, along with excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency using Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, or other e-mail and scheduling application is required. Must work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and Baruch and CUNY constituents.
