Position Announcement: Hollins University Writing Center Director

Responsible for oversight of writing across the curriculum, the director plans and facilitates professional development workshops for faculty and works with academic departments to generate writing courses in all disciplines. The director reviews and approves proposals for courses to satisfy general education writing requirements and works closely with faculty on developing syllabi for courses that satisfy these requirements.
Also responsible for the administration of the Writing Center, the director works with faculty to determine how the Center can assist them in writing-intensive classes, hires and supervises 8-12 student tutors each year, provides professional development opportunities for tutors, teaches a tutor training course, supports international and learning disabled students, and conducts annual assessments of the Writing Center.
Reporting to the dean of academic services, this ten month, non-tenure track, administrative post includes teaching responsibilities (up to three courses each year, including an expository writing course for new students with weak writing skills) and service responsibilities (including advising and committee work). The director is also expected to remain active in his or her field by attending conferences and publishing scholarship. Candidates must hold a PhD or be ABD in a liberal arts field and must have had prior experience working in a Writing Center or in a writing across the curriculum program.
