The Learning Resource Centers (LRC) Department at James Madison University seeks applications and nominations for the position of Director. The appointment is at the rank of tenure track Associate Professor and will
begin July 1, 2009.
Areas of support in LRC include Disability Services, English Language Learner Services, Learning Strategies Instruction, Speech Services, the Science and Mathematics Learning Center, Supplemental Instruction, and the University Writing Center. A 100,000 sq. ft. Student Health and Success Center planned for completion in 2011/12 will include new facilities for the LRC.
Successful candidates must demonstrate a history of competent leadership in developing and administering academic support programs, pedagogy, and curriculum; a record of scholarly achievement and excellence in teaching and research at the college level; the capacity to lead a diverse group of faculty and staff in the delivery of programs that help students become more effective, efficient, and engaged learners; an understanding of higher education administration, the capacity to facilitate consensus in
decision-making, and an ability to collaborate with various stakeholders
across the campus. A doctorate in communication, education, mathematics,
science, writing, or related fields is required.
Academic responsibilities include: program development, outcomes assessment, and evaluation; liaison with faculty in supported academic programs; instruction and tutoring. Administrative responsibilities include:
administration of faculty, staff, and student affairs within the department; budget and resource management; faculty and staff recruitment and retention; facilities planning.
