Director, Regis University Writing Center, Center for Student Academic Support

Reporting to the Dean of Regis University Library, the Director of the Writing Center, Center for Student Academic Support serves as administrator of the Regis University Writing Center that provides services to students onsite and online, including writing consultation for basic writing skills, essays, scientific and professional writing.

The Director works with a team of directors, deans and staff that manage and operate a center that provides services for various types of student academic support; assesses students’ learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses and make the appropriate recommendations and/or referrals to support services on campus; assists in production and distribution of training materials for students and writing consultants; and creates methods of assessing student needs regarding writing.

This position develops processes for referring students to appropriate resources for writing assistance, including online resources; screens and hires writing consultants for Regis College, College for Professional Studies and Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions; develops resources such as AMA/APA/MLA/Chicago Manual of Style formatting guides for writing consultants and students; provides professional development opportunities for writing consultants; and ensures excellence in writing consultation.

The director oversees monitoring of writing consultant schedules in order to accommodate the needs of students; tracks utilization and outcomes of the Writing Center; demonstrates ability to work with students of all ages, academic backgrounds, and ethnic/racial heritages; works with Deans of all 3 Regis Colleges to assess needs and develop University and College specific processes related to writing skills; and other duties as assigned related to the development of the Center for Student Academic Support.

A Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution in the fields of English, Rhetoric or Composition and three years experience in a comprehensive or research university related to student support in writing.

Successful candidates will have experience in recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of writing consultants.
