The Southeastern Writing Center Association (SWCA) Executive Board is now accepting nominations for board member positions.

All nominees must be SWCA members and be willing to serve as described below. Other information about the SWCA Executive Board and by-laws can be found at http://www.iwca-swca.org/About-Us.html.
Self-nominations and nominations of others should include the nominee’s e-mail address, telephone number, and the position for which they will run. Send nominations by midnight, November 30, 2012, to current SWCA Secretary Steve Price at email@example.com. Please include “SWCA Nomination” in the subject line.
Steve Price (firstname.lastname@example.org) will confirm receipt of all nominations and contact nominees via the email address provided. At that time, he will ask them to submit a personal statement of no more than 150 words that offers a brief overview of the their background, including any professional organizational leadership in writing centers, and outlines their plans for serving their constituents and the SWCA if elected. Please do not send personal statements at this time.
Voting will take place electronically from December 3 through December 9. The elected candidates will be announced on December 12 through the SWCA email list.
1. Secretary (Term: 2 years, renewable)
The Executive Secretary will be in charge of taking minutes during all Board Meetings and Retreats, including conference calls and the annual business meeting at the SWCA Conference. The Secretary will distribute copies of the minutes to the Board for approval, and correct them as necessary before having them posted in the online archive. The Secretary will serve as custodian of the organization’s archives and records, and work with the SWCA Webmaster. The Secretary shall chair The Nominating Committee. With the Board and Nominating Committee, the Secretary will develop a slate of candidates for election, be responsible for issuing a call for nominations and handle all activities associated with elections and voting, including announcing results to candidates and the membership.
2. Representative At Large (Term: 2 years, renewable)
A total of two At-Large Members will serve on the Board, with two being elected each year. Board Members-at-Large attend Executive Board meetings and Retreats, participate in discussion on the SWCA Board listserv and in conference calls, and help to develop and execute short- and long-term goals in the best interests of SWCA. Each At-large member also chairs either the Awards Committee or Scholarship Committee. If the Secretary is running for an elected position, an at-large member not running for election will facilitate elections as described in the Secretary’s position.
3. Community College Representative (Term: 2 years, renewable)
The Community College Representative shall focus on creating a network of SWCA community college members so that the organization can focus on meeting the needs of these institutions. The Community College Representative should work closely with At-Large Members and the Outreach Coordinator to organize locally-sponsored events.
4. Secondary School Representative (Term: 2 years, renewable)
The Secondary School Representative shall focus on creating a network of SWCA secondary school members so that the organization can focus on meeting the needs of these institutions. The Secondary School Representative should work closely with At-Large Members and the Outreach Coordinator to organize local events.
5. Outreach Coordinator (Term: 2 years, renewable)
The Outreach Coordinator will be in charge of promoting the SWCA throughout the region. The OC should work closely with the Community College Representative, the Secondary School Representative, and State/Territory Representatives to promote the organization through locally-sponsored workshops and events.
