Associate Director, WRITING CENTER

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) invites Writing Center professionals to apply for a 12-month administrative position as Associate Director in the Division of Innovative Learning and Academic Support Services (ILASS). ILASS is a newly created division which combines learning related services to promote creative approaches to support learning and academic excellence. Reporting to the Director of Academic Learning Services, the Associate Director will serve as an advocate for writing support programs, collaborating with faculty across the curriculum to support writing instruction and student development in all disciplines; evaluate and promote effective uses of technology in support of writing; serve as a center of campus information for initiatives involving writing, including collaboration or cross disciplinary work, projects and workshops. This position is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Writing Center including selection, training, evaluation and supervision of tutors; scheduling, budget, program design and assessment; development of training materials; and strategic planning. The Associate Director will network with faculty to provide appropriate co-curricular support services, while providing outreach regarding available services to current and new students on the Albany and Vermont campuses. The ideal candidate will have the ability to coordinate planning, development and support of English as a Second Language (ESL) programming and services at the College.

 

Qualifications

Doctorate preferred; Master’s degree required. Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have experience in writing and communications pedagogy and/or coordination of academic tutoring in a higher education setting. Familiarity with current technologies used to support innovative practices is required. Qualified candidates will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students. Candidates must be passionate about promoting student success and building viable tutoring programs.

Founded in 1881, ACPHS is a private, independent institution committed to graduating the best health care minds in the world. The historic campus is rapidly growing, offering academic programs and research activities spanning the full spectrum of pharmacy and health sciences from drug discovery to patient care. The College is best known for its Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program, but in recent years the school has added bachelor’s degree programs in Biomedical Technology, Chemistry, Health and Human Sciences, Microbiology, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. ACPHS also offers master’s degree programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health Outcomes Research, Biotechnology, and Cytotechnology & Molecular Cytology. In addition, ACPHS students may pursue joint degrees in the fields of medicine, law, and business through cooperative agreements with area colleges.

 

Today, over 1,700 students are pursuing a wide range of career pathways in health related fields through degree programs offered at the College’s main campus in the heart of Albany, New York and a satellite campus located in Colchester, Vermont.
