Position Announcement: Assistant Director, Washington College Writing Center (Ten month staff position, beginning in August)
Washington College, a selective liberal arts institution in Chestertown, Maryland, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of its Writing Center. The Washington College Writing Center has a 30-year history of supporting the college’s writing program and providing individualized instruction in writing to students across the curriculum. Responsibilities: The Assistant Director reports to the Director of the Writing Center. Responsibilities include assisting in day-to-day operations, managing the Writing Center’s online schedule and data collection, providing support for faculty teaching in the college’s writing program, and working with the Director to hire, supervise, and provide training and professional development for peer writing consultants. The Assistant Director helps the Director to coordinate activities and instruction with the Office of Academic Skills and the Quantitative Skills Center. Qualified candidates will also have the opportunity to teach one course section annually in the college’s first-year writing program and, with the Director, to co-teach the Writing Center’s peer tutoring seminar, the course that prepares students to work as peer writing consultants.
Qualifications: Minimum of a Master’s degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a closely related field; experience working in a writing or learning center; experience teaching writing at the college level; demonstrated commitment to writing pedagogy and writing across the curriculum. Additional experience or interest in TESOL, writing and technology, or writing assessment is also desirable.
