Registration is now open for the upcoming Transformation from the Center: The 3rd Annual Secondary Schools Writing Center Conference that will take place this fall. This is a collaborative conference with the Northern Virginia Writing Project, George Mason University, and Fairfax County Public Schools that builds on the success of two prior Writing Center Conferences held at George Mason University. The conference will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at George Mason University from 7:30 am – 2:00 p.m.
The registration form can be found by following this link.
At the conference, high school and college writing tutors will have the opportunity to network with other tutors from around the Capital region, work with Northern Virginia Writing Project Teacher Consultants, participate in tutor presentations, and reflect on the transformative experience a writing center has on a tutor, a writing center and a school.
School administrators and directors will have the opportunity to participate in a roundtable discussion on the transformative power of high school writing and literacy centers. This discussion will be led by Andrew Jeter, a teacher and director of the largest high school literacy center in the country at Niles West High School. Andrew is President of The Chicagoland Organization of Writing, Literacy, and Learning Centers (COWLLC). Directors and administrators will then have time to develop how their school’s writing center can be a transformative nexus of creative collaboration, deep inquiry and broad understanding.
