The University of New Mexico invites applications for the position of Associate Director of the Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS). CAPS, a nationally recognized student success program, is the learning & writing center at the University of New Mexico. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, UNM is a large, research-oriented Institution focused on serving the culturally and linguistically diverse population of the region.

Reporting to the Director of CAPS, the Associate Director oversees all CAPS student service programs at the Center for Academic Program Support: the Learning Strategies Program, the Math & Science Tutoring Program, the Online Tutoring Program, the Supplemental Instruction Program, and the Writing & Language Center.

The Associate Director, working with the Director and other members of the CAPS staff, will:
·       oversee all CAPS services, providing alignment between CAPS’ programs and maintaining a high level of programmatic excellence.
·       ensure implementation of the CAPS mission in accordance with CAPS’ vision.
·       supervise the team of four professional staff members who directly coordinate each of CAPS’ student service programs, leading this group in developing and implementing student service initiatives.
·       manage CAPS’ program assessments.
·       participate in overarching CAPS fiscal management, program innovations, and strategic planning.
·       promote/facilitate productive communication among the various components of CAPS.
·       foster collaborations with UNM, New Mexico, and national communities that revolve around quality services for the UNM student population.
·       participate in local and national conversations on effective learning assistance programming, peer-facilitated learning, and persistence and graduation efforts, engaging in the scholarly community of learning theory and practice.
·       serve on university committees and task forces.
·       develop and articulate policies to allow a large department to efficiently serve students and oversee student employees.
·       act as primary line of communications with partner programs.
·       seek out and implement tools and practices to align the center with the state of the field in peer-led learning.
·       remain abreast of programmatic changes across all academic units and departments, in order to align CAPS services with the UNM undergraduate curriculum.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications for the position include a graduate degree in an area of study relevant to learning/writing center administration, and 7+ years of  relevant higher education experience including at least 2 years in a supervisory role in a university learning center, writing center, or other higher education student success program. In addition, the ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for and expertise in learning/writing center work (evidenced by a record of scholarly and professional achievements in these areas), excellent written and spoken communication abilities, fluency with data-based reporting and assessment, experience implementing a training/professional development program for professional and/or student employees, strong mediation and leadership skills, excellent leadership skills, and experience implementing a program budget.
