The Department of English at Purdue University invites applications for an associate or full professor specializing in writing center administration, who will serve as Director of our acclaimed Writing Lab and teach graduate courses in writing center research and administration, as well as courses in tutoring writing to graduates and undergraduates.
Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. in English, or a related area, with a concentration in rhetoric and composition; have a significant record of work published in well-regarded venues and show evidence of ongoing research; demonstrate teaching excellence in a wide range of writing courses; and have administrative experience in a writing center setting. Publications in writing center theory, administration, and pedagogy, and in the application of technology to writing centers preferred. Interest in writing across the curriculum desirable.
Regular teaching load is 2-2 and will consist of graduate and undergraduate courses; the director of the writing lab is typically granted a teaching-load reduction. The successful candidate will also mentor graduate students and undergraduate tutors and serve on graduate exam committees, thesis and doctoral committees, and on departmental, college, or university committees. Starting date for this position is August 18, 2014.
