The University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for an associate or full professor with tenure (9-month service period with possible
summer salary) to serve as the Director of Writing. The start date is negotiable and it may be as early as September 2014. The Director is
expected to innovate, advocate for, and administer campus-wide efforts to improve writing. He or she will design, coordinate, and facilitate
faculty development, vertical curriculum integration, and assessment. The successful candidate will hold an administrative appointment reporting to
the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and a tenured faculty appointment in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences teaching a halftime load.
Minimum qualifications for the position:
• Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in rhetoric and composition or closely related field and demonstrated scholarship appropriate to appointment as
an associate or full professor in composition studies
• Administrative experience with writing programs at a 4-year college
• Seven years experience teaching college level writing
• Experience with assessment of writing programs
Successful candidates will provide evidence of success and expertise in: training faculty in the teaching of writing across the curriculum,
developing curricula applicable to a spectrum of constituents including multi-lingual and basic writers, writing center pedagogy, and working with
