Assistant Director of the Writing Studio and Lecturer in Natural or Social Science, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN (Review continues until filled)

The Writing Studio at Vanderbilt University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of the Writing Studio. The successful candidate will have a secondary appointment as a Lecturer in a natural or social science department. The Writing Studio is a writing center that supports undergraduate and graduate students in their writing, as well as a writing in the disciplines program that supports faculty in writing instruction. The Assistant Director works under the leadership of the Director of the Writing Studio to develop and coordinate Studio programs and to train and support undergraduate and graduate student staff. As a Lecturer, the Assistant Director will also teach one natural or social science course per semester; these are typically writing-intensive courses. This is a 12-month appointment beginning August 1, 2014. The initial appointment will end July 31, 2015. Reappointment, if requested and approved, will be for a three-year term beginning August 1, 2015. Renewal will be determined by the agreement of the Writing Studio Director, the appropriate Department Chair, and the Senior Associate Dean.

A Ph.D. in a natural or social science is required at time of appointment. Experience in a writing center or writing in the disciplines program is strongly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in writing-intensive course instruction, knowledge of writing center pedagogy, and a strong commitment and creative approach to the development of student services.
