Reading/Writing Center ELL Specialist – Augustana College invites applications for the position of Professional Faculty with a starting date of August 1, 2014. This 10 month position is annually renewable and emphasizes a commitment to undergraduate teaching, advising, and mentoring roles of a faculty member in a liberal arts setting. Specific responsibilities include providing individualized tutoring sessions to students in the Reading/Writing Center with an emphasis on English Language Learners, and teaching within the first-year sequence as well as a Language and Culture of the US course for international students. Also included are facilitating faculty development in pedagogies effective for ELL students, coordinating with other offices to develop academic programming for ELL students, and sharing administrative duties in the Reading/Writing Center. Expertise and a minimum of a Master’s degree is required in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Applied Linguistics, Cross-Cultural Rhetorics, or a closely related field; also considered: a graduate degree and extensive experience in the fields of Education, Rhetorical Theory, and/or Literacy Theory. The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of effective classroom teaching experience in college-level ELL, experience in one-on-one tutoring in ELL, writing and/or reading processes, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, administrators, and faculty.
