The Department of Modern Languages at Briar Cliff University seeks applications for an anticipated full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Composition and Rhetoric and Director of the Writing Center, beginning in August 2014. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition in hand by time of hiring; demonstrated excellence in teaching college-level composition courses and in working at a university writing center; and ability to administer and assess writing center and writing across the curriculum programs. ESL/ELL experience and experience teaching speech are highly preferred. The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual committed to fostering student achievement, program success, faculty development, and interdisciplinary coordination. Duties include teaching lower-division writing courses and upper-division courses in grammar, linguistics, and composition theory; serving as the Director of the Writing Center; coordinating writing across the curriculum and writing assessments; serving on the First-Year Experience committee; and supervising and supporting adjunct writing faculty for First-Year Writing courses.
