Thurber House is accepting submissions for the John E. Nance Writer-in-Residence program, a four week residency in the private two-bedroom apartment on the third floor of Thurber House, former home of humor writer and New Yorker cartoonist, James Thurber. The selected writer will also receive a $4000 stipend for the four week residency and will participate in community outreach activities during the stay.

    • Applicants must have had a book published by a traditional publisher within the last three years and have another work under contract or in progress. The books can be fiction or nonfiction.
    • Applicants must include two copies of their finished work and three chapters of a work in progress, not to exceed 50 pages.
    • Applicants must also be a U.S. citizen and over 18 years of age.
    • Applications must be postmarked by June 6, 2014.
