University College, an academic division of Utah Valley University, invites applicants to apply for the open position of Associate Dean to begin July 1, 2014. The screening date is June 15, 2014. University College is students’ connection to success, providing an entry point for individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and supporting them throughout their academic experience. The Associate Dean assists the Dean with the vision, strategic planning, and administration of the college with specific duties related to curriculum, university studies degrees, assessment, academic support services, student exceptions, policy, faculty development, and faculty tenure and rank.
The successful applicant will carry out the following essential functions and duties:
-Serve as an integral member of the Dean’s leadership team.
-Promote and advocate for the mission of the College and its broad range of programs, faculty, and students.
-Serve on university councils, committees, work groups, and other bodies as assigned.
-Assist as directed by dean in the oversight and support of department chairs, directors, and coordinators with planning and development of new courses and curriculum and revisions to existing curriculum.
-Direct College academic assessment, program reviews, and accreditation processes. Provide leadership, direction, oversight, and evaluation of the College’s University Studies degrees.
-Assist the Dean with faculty hiring, development, rank, tenure, and promotion processes in coordination with department chairs, including training of chairs of search and RTP committees.
-Serve as a resource on policy issues: provide information, interpretation, and assistance in developing and implementing University policies and procedures.
-Oversee student academic issues: appeals, exceptions to policy, misconduct, complaints, etc.
-Seek opportunities for collaboration with academic support systems within the College, including Learning Communities, Learning Strategies, Math Lab, Academic Tutoring, Writing Center, University College Academic Counseling and Academic Standards.
-Provide support, counsel, and assistance to the Dean on administrative matters, including input on strategic directions for the College, development of planning, budget, and accountability requests and reports, and disciplinary issues.
-Assist the Dean and Dean’s staff in overseeing the daily operations of the College.
-Represent the dean at various functions within the institution and in the community as assigned; act on behalf of the Dean in the Dean’s absence.
