Dartmouth College seeks an experienced academic professional to serve as Interim Director of Student Support Services for 2014-15 at the College’s Institute for Writing and Rhetoric. The Student Center for Research, Writing, and Information Technology (RWIT) and the Writing Assistants program are the Institute’s two key branches of student support.

The Director of Student Support reports to the Institute Director. Key responsibilities include leadership and daily management for RWIT: hiring, training, and supervising tutors and writing assistants, assessing RWIT, overseeing the annual budget, leading the collaborative RWIT junior and senior teams, and interacting with other offices at the College. Teaching will include a total of two courses for the year (Dartmouth is on the quarter system). The Director maintains a scholarly research agenda at a level appropriate to the position.

Dartmouth has a richly diverse student population, and the Institute for Writing and Rhetoric is deeply committed to nurturing similar diversity in our faculty. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

Minimum qualifications: an MA in an appropriate field (PhD preferred), experience in writing center work and administration, an understanding of the ethos of a highly selective liberal arts institution, and a teaching background that includes writing courses. Consensus building skills, organizational skills, attention to accuracy and detail, and a teamwork approach are essential.

The appointment of the Director is for a one-year term. The starting date is August 1, 2014. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; the search committee will begin reviewing applications June 30th.

Candidates should send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of excellent teaching and writing center administration experience, and contact information for three references to Christiane Donahue at <writing.program@dartmouth.edu>
