Assistant Director of the Writing Center (Staff Assistant)- The Writing Center at SUNY College at Old Westbury invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Director of the Writing Center. Under the supervision of the Writing Center Director, the Assistant Director will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the Writing Center, including providing face-to-face and online writing assistance to a diverse student population, and scheduling, supervising, and mentoring undergraduate and professional staff members. In addition to these duties, the Assistant Director will play an active role in staff recruiting, hiring, training, and development, along with providing academic outreach and support to the institution at large through Writing Center designed workshops in classes and within the Writing Center. This 10-month position will begin in August 2014 and has the potential for annual renewal. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Composition and Rhetoric, English, Education, or a closely related field and have experience teaching writing in the classroom or Writing Center, preferably both. Candidates should also have an interest in supporting non-traditional and/or first-generation college students. Professional Writing Consultant (Academic Tutor) Part-Time – The Writing Center at SUNY College at Old Westbury invites applications for a part-time Professional Writing Consultant beginning August 2014. This academic year appointment has the potential for annual renewal. Job responsibilities include providing face-to-face and online writing assistance to a diverse student population and teaching writing workshops in classes and within the Writing Center. Flexible availability, particularly during the evening, and ability to add additional hours during the end of the semester strongly preferred. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Composition/Rhetoric, English, Education or related field and have experience teaching writing in the Writing Center or classroom.
