Job Title: Writing, Reading and Language Center Manager (Learning Center Manager)

Salary: $62,212.80 – $84,136.00

Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, Learning Center, has a need for a full-time Learning Center Manager. Work schedule is 40 hours per week and generally 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and Saturday hours may be required based on the needs of the center.

Job Summary: The Learning Center Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and functions of a large interdisciplinary academic support center. Center services include a computer-assisted learning lab for Reading, Languages, English as a Second Language, and Writing in the Disciplines. The Center also offers comprehensive tutoring services in Reading, English as a Second Language, World Languages and Writing in the Disciplines.

Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Keeping current with pedagogy and technology trends in tutoring and assisting adult learners in a community college environment.
Implementing policy as set by the faculty advisory committee and instructional dean.
Managing the Center’s budget and overseeing purchases of supplies, equipment, and contracted services.
Managing the Learning Center staff, to include: managing and evaluating performance, initiating the hiring process, developing and conducting periodic tutor training, and supervising of instructional support staff and student aides.
Conferring with department chairs, the Center’s advisory committee, and instructional dean on ordering appropriate software and other academic instructional equipment and supplies that will enhance learning.
Reviewing tutor requests and collaborating with department chairs in tutor selection and assignment of tutoring schedules.
Collaborating with Information Technology and Media Resources staff to ensure compliance with college procedures for purchase and integration of academic software and hardware; and also serve as the contact person for software and hardware vendors who demonstrate learning center products that might enhance student learning.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines: English, Composition/Rhetoric, English as a Second Language or TESOL, World Languages, Interdisciplinary Studies, Reading, Curriculum and Instructional Design, or a closely related discipline.
Two years managerial/supervisory level experience including managing/evaluating performance, assigning work, enforcing policies and procedures and training staff.
Five years of tutoring experience including experience in a computerized learning center, academic program and working within the pedagogy of the subject area.
Experience managing or directing an academic support program.
Strong computer skills and ability to advocate for student, faculty and staff needs.
Effective interpersonal and decision making skills, including excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently.
Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s or higher degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric, English as a Second Language or TESOL, World Languages, Interdisciplinary Studies, Reading, Curriculum and Instructional Design, or a closely related discipline.
Experience managing or directing an academic support program in a 2 or 4 year college or university setting.
Experience teaching college-level courses in one or more of the designated disciplines.
Experience tutoring in an academic support center in a 2 or 4 year college or university setting.
Understanding of technology used to support second language acquisition/instruction in an academic support lab setting
Ability to use computer technology such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) to create correspondence, memos, and occasional spreadsheets, etc
