Jackson State Community College in Jackson, TN seeks a full time Writing Center Director.
Director, Writing Center
The Director of the Writing Center (WC) oversees daily operations of the WC to include:
Hiring, training, and supervision of all part-time, temporary employees
Promotion of the Writing Centers on all campuses
Collection, maintenance, analysis, and reporting of data on student, employee, and community usage of the WC’s services
Management of the WC budget.
Manage and supervise the daily activities of the Writing Center
Supervise all temporary, part-time personnel
Hire, train, schedule and evaluate tutors
Select and develop tutor-training materials and student resources
Build Writing Center services for Lexington, Savannah, and Humboldt
Build the online tutoring program
Schedule and conduct related meetings and workshops for faculty and student writers
Collaborate with faculty to provide writing assignments in other disciplines in addition to English
Collaborate with faculty to determine needs for their classes
Provide database analysis for WC using TutorTrac
Organize and publicize WC activities and special events.
Maintain the WC webpage
Work closely with the Director of the Library to serve the campus community, including bringing in special speakers.
Assist faculty and staff with preparing, critiquing, and/or editing academic and in-house documents
Work with faculty and staff for their own academic writing.
Perform other administrative duties, e.g. prepare and manage the budget
Prepare reports as requested for JSCC and TBR
Serve on committees as needed/requested
Serve at activities that reach students, such as Great Expectations and the Welcome Back Bash
Assume responsibility for other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor
Bachelor’s degree in English or related field with emphasis in writing.
Prior supervisory experience.
Masters Degree in English or related field preferred.
Experience with writing centers and WAC and/or teaching composition preferred.
Administrative experience, such as preparing and managing a budget preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and public relations communication skills; ability to effectively communicate using written and verbal skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Banner database experience or knowledge is a plus.·Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.·Reasoning ability required in administrative decision making, advising and assisting students, project coordination, performing complex tasks and applying relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations.
Office administration, customer service, public relations, time management, organizational, management, scheduling, and personnel management skills required.
Must be able to exercise ethics and maintain confidentiality.
