|JOB DESCRIPTION: Assists in directing the strategic planning, development, and implementation of programs. Represents the organization at meetings, conferences and other events. May develop and present speeches or presentations to generate or enhance awareness of program(s). Provides technical support by evaluating established processes, conducting training, attending operational meetings and networking with affiliated groups. Monitors progress toward achieving established objectives and deadlines. Participates in planning, administering and monitoring program related budgets. Conducts research, designs new initiatives, and collaborates with others to ensure program(s) remain viable. May serve on, hold office in, or chair committees. May write publishable articles and papers. May supervise staff. Oversees or assists in developing operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies. Ensures required records and documentation are maintained. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the program(s) and five years of program related experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.DATE CREATED/MODIFIED/REVIEWED: 06/08/06 AMM
|Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in TESOL or equivalent, experience teaching undergraduate or graduate level ESL writing and language skills (2-3 years minimum), computer literacy in basic Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Blackboard or similar instructional platforms. Ability to speak a second language, experience teaching abroad also preferred|
|The Assistant Director for English as a Second Language Program will teach special sections of English composition to freshmen, coordinate the ESL tutoring program and serve as support for the ESL summer instructional program for entering and admitted students. Other activities will include support for the development of summer programs for international students, implementation of assessment of language proficiency and other associated activities for international students and those with English as a Second Language needs. The assistant director will support the director in collection of information about student performance and in writing annual reports. This position requires ability to communicate effectively with faculty and students, to implement group study sessions, to work on a team and to collaborate with other university units. Some late afternoon and evening sessions may be required as well as occasional work on weekends during critical times.|
