Assistant Professor of Practice, Writing Center Director, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The Department of English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks an Assistant Professor  of Practice in Composition and Rhetoric to direct the Writing Center as part of a collaborative team dedicated to the teaching of writing at UNL. The Writing Center is a vital campus resource, providing writers from across the disciplines an opportunity to work with a dynamic,  professionally
active group of undergraduate and graduate writing consultants. The Professor of Practice (a multi-year renewable appointment with opportunity for promotion)  will be responsible for providing teacher development focused on effective Writing Center instructional practice, teaching courses related to writing theory and pedagogy (one course per semester), assigning and managing the Writing Center consulting schedule,  developing and offering faculty development sessions to enhance university-wide writing instruction, overseeing the center’s personnel and operating budget, and conducting assessments of usage and quality. This individual will join a professionally active  group of six composition and rhetoric faculty, who work collaboratively on projects related to K-16 writing instruction. Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in English or related field with emphasis in the teaching of writing
  • 3 years experience with secondary or post-secondary writing instruction, including strong evidence of commitment to writing
  •  center theory and practice
  • Writing Center experience, or equivalent experience with individualized
  •  writing consultation
  • Experience with supporting the writing needs of English Language Learners
  • Experience with mentoring or providing professional development for new teachers and/or tutors

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with scheduling and budget management
Experience with assessment
Administrative Experience
