The Writing Center at Colorado College invites applications for a full-time Writing Center Specialist. This position works primarily with students in the Writing Center who need continuity in their tutoring because the writing challenges they face are particularly demanding. These students may be under-prepared for college-level reading and writing, highly anxious about writing, struggling with ESL issues or learning disabilities, or working on major projects (senior theses, senior seminar papers, grant proposals, graduate school and fellowship applications, etc.).
Masters degree plus a minimum of two years writing center experience and two years of experience teaching writing at the college level; CRLA Level 2 certification (or equivalent); experience with non-directive tutoring techniques; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to think critically and solve problems; good judgment and discretion to handle confidential or sensitive information; excellent organizational and customer service skills; interpersonal skills including tact, patience, emotional intelligence, and an ability to listen and manage conflict.
