Upper Iowa University invites applications for Director of Writing Center. The Writing Center Director is a professional staff position housed on the Fayette campus and serving the entire University. It entails teaching courses in writing and writing center theory and practice (approx. ¼ time), directing the Writing Center and collaborating with the English faculty to coordinate writing course offerings (approx. ¾ time). This person will be working primarily throughout the academic year and would also need to be available for approximately 8 days during the summer for new student registration. The director’s main purpose is to assess continually the academic writing environment of Upper Iowa at large and to implement programs that encourage student participation in writing processes while emphasizing retention with the goal of ensuring academic success for all Upper Iowa students. Professional development in writing center theory and management is expected. Also expected: experience with English Language Learner (ELL) students; minimum of two years university-level teaching experience; experience advising, mentoring and supervising college-age students; experience with promotions, public relations and budget management. Previous experience in a writing center is essential. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (English, Rhetoric, Creative Writing, etc.) is required.
