The International Writing Centers Association (IWCA) serves to strengthen the writing center community through all of its activities. The IWCA offers its Research Grant and Graduate Research Grant to encourage scholars to apply and advance existing theories and methods or create new knowledge. The Research Grant supports quantitative, qualitative, theoretical, and applied projects associated with writing center research and application. The Graduate Research Grant supports research projects associated with a masters thesis or doctoral dissertation. IWCA Research Grant Guidelines Purpose The International Writing Centers Association (IWCA) serves to strengthen the writing center community through all of its activities. The IWCA offers its Research Grant to encourage scholars to apply and advance exiting theories and methods or create new knowledge. This grant supports quantitative, qualitative, theoretical, and applied projects associated with writing center research and application. While travel funding is not the primary purpose of this grant, we have supported travel as part of specific research activities (e.g. traveling to specific sites, libraries or archives to conduct research). This fund is not intended to support conference travel only; instead the travel must be part of a larger research program stipulated in the grant request. (Please note: Applicants seeking support for theses and dissertations are not eligible for this grant; instead, they should apply for the IWCA Graduate Research Grant). Award $500.00--$750.00 NOTE: IWCA reserves the right to modify the amount. Complete application packets will contain the following items (electronic applications accepted):
Process Proposal deadlines are January 1 st and July 1 st . After each deadline, the IWCA President will forward copies of the complete packet to the IWCA Research Awards Committee for consideration, discussion, and vote. Applicants can expect notification 4-6 weeks from receipt of application materials. Stipulations The following stipulations adhere to supported projects:
Send all materials electronically or via postal mail to the IWCA President. Submissions should be emailed or postmarked by January 1 or July 1 depending on grant cycle. This grant supports research projects associated with a masters thesis or a doctoral dissertation. NOTE: The cover letter sells the IWCA Board on the mutual benefits that will result from their financial support. Anything that applicants do to link this project to their specific career goals and to the needs of the writing center community is welcome.
