**the following message was sent to IWCA members on Monday, July 27**

Dear IWCA membership:

We were dismayed to learn of the NCTE leadership’s decision to de-charter the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), which we know is a professional home for many of our own members and colleagues. We stand with members who are feeling concern and distress about what the future holds after this change. IWCA has not received any additional information from NCTE or CCCC outside of the email to NCTE membership on Friday, July 24.

We do want to clarify to our membership that IWCA is a separate 501(c)(3) organization with its own nonprofit status; IWCA’s existence is not dependent in any way on NCTE. Other than the $25 we pay for assembly status out of our annual budget, your membership dollars do not directly support NCTE as an organization. 

IWCA leadership was already in the process of reevaluating our relationship with NCTE over the past year; Friday’s decision has significantly accelerated our timeline. Nonetheless, any changes in our current relationship with NCTE would require amending IWCA’s constitution. Please know that we (the IWCA officers) are working on a proposal to send to the IWCA Board. If approved by the Board, the proposed amendment will come before you as members for a vote.

From what we understand, CCCC members are currently crowdsourcing information in this Google Doc. We will share any additional official information regarding CCCC and the CCCC 2027 conference as we receive it, and we will communicate with you about the status of the 2027 IWCA Collaborative as soon as we are able.
